TJ’s Dark Chocolate Almond Laceys are permanently on our weekly shopping list. Each week we buy one for my husband to take to work. This is his afternoon pick me up snack. Who can blame him, they are very satisfying. You get toffee and chocolate all in one. They are thin and crunchy. There is also a milk chocolate version of these cookies for those who don’t like the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Almond Laceys”
Trader José, no way? That right, Trader Joe’s uses different names for different ethic foods. Trader José is the name on many of its’ Mexican foods. Trader Giottos’s is the name for their Italian food, Trader Ming’s (Chinese) & Trader Jacque’s (French) there are many more names but I won’t go into all of them, the list is long.
Growing up the only taco I ever knew was from a box. My childhood taco consisted of ground beef, sauce from a packet, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and a hard taco shell. It was so yummy! Great childhood memories. But now I’ve tried the not out of the box taco and there is no going back. Continue reading “Trader José’s Carnitas (with recipe)”
I’m a child of the 80’s and I ate a lot of candy and watched a lot of TV (Nickelodeon, mostly). Heck, my parents would give me money to go to the gas station or store down the street to buy candy with friends. Oh, I miss those summers. My go to favorites were always banana flavored Laffy Taffy and WarHeads. It was so much fun to see who could keep the super sour WarHeads in their mouth the longest. I’m proud to say I usually won.
Now, as an adult I still eat a lot of candy and watch a lot of TV. BUT my taste in candy has changed. Except for the fact artificial banana flavor is still my favorite flavor. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Ts & Js Sour Gummies”
TJ’s Creamy Polenta with spinach and carrots was recommended to me by my best friend Bradley. I’ve always been a fan of ready made polenta. This is the first time I’ve bought it frozen. Polenta is not hard to make from scratch but having it ready-made is a time saver and I can’t really tell a difference in flavor. One bag is big enough for a family of four. Half the bag is perfect for my husband and I to not have leftovers. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Creamy Polenta with Spinach & Carrots”
TJ’s Citrus Chicken Salad is a great lunch for work or home. This salad has so many different ways you can make it your own. If I’m eating it at home I like to add extra lime juice. The lime slice is often tiny and does not add much flavor. I also like to add a little extra cilantro. It’s even better when I can heat up the chicken in a pan or in the microwave. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I think about is, how can I best consume a whopping 400 calories on breakfast? Alright, I don’t but lets just say I was surprised to see how many calories are in one package. It’s 200 per pastry that’s 400 if I eat the 2 pastries in a pouch.
Then I was even more surprised when I compared them to a real Pop-Tart, they are pretty much identical in calories and carbs. By the way, on the Pop-Tart’s nutritional info webpage it’s pretty terrible because they state how Pop-Tarts are a great source of real fruit, vitamins and minerals. Yet among all the terrible ingredients they still use artificial coloring like Blue 1. I sound like such a millennial, I know. I love these nuts! Giggles to self. These are a great snack for those who are A) not allergic to nuts and B) not diabetic. The bag says it all: great for salad or snacking. I use these most often chopped up in an arugula salad. When I snack on these I try not to eat too many since they are high in sugar and the bag is a bit small. I could say more but these are just plain good yummy nuts. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Candied Pecans”
Summer is officially here! I was so thrilled to see this juice back on the shelf from last year. Then my heart was broken because TJ’s was sold out! But the juice gods were on my side and there was one bottle left thanks to somebody who placed it in the wrong section. Checking out the Crew Member asked if I had tried it before and I told her how great it was and how it was the last one on the shelf. She said the same thing happened yesterday. I will definitely be stocking up to have spares in the pantry.
The Watermelon Cucumber Cooler is so refreshing and of course I’m drinking it as I write this post. You mainly taste the watermelon with a hint of cucumber. This drink is not super sugary but more of a watered down flavor compared to most juices at TJ’s. I don’t mean watered down in a bad way but more in a refreshing light way. Sometimes I will add sparking water to it with dinner over ice. I’m sure this is a great mixer with many types of alcohol. Update: Add a splash of TJ’s Blackberry Crush juice for an even better drink experience! Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Watermelon Cucumber Cooler”
Once again the sample section of TJ’s sucked me in. Most of the time the samples are something I’ve already tried but Tj’s Hatch Chile Mac & Cheese was new to me. This product first arrived February 2016 according the Fearless Flyer, somehow I’ve missed it the past few months.
I’ve had the regular TJ’s Mac & Cheese many times, I try to keep one in my freezer when I need a non vegetable side dish with dinner or when I have a mac & cheese craving emergency.
The hatch chile mixed with the mac & cheese is a fantastic match. The hatch chilies add more flavor than they do heat, at least my box did. I’m sure some boxes may be hotter than others due to different batches of chilies. The chilies and the cheddar blend incredibly well and leave you with the classic mac and cheese flavor but with an extra flavor sensation of chile. This is definitely a great dish to have with most any meal. It lends itself to taco Tuesday and even pot roast Sunday. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Hatch Chile Mac & Cheese”
I happily ended up trying TJ’s Hawaiian Style Hickory Barbecue Potato chips when our go to chip, TJ’s Potato Chips with South African Style Seasoning was discontinued. In a way I’m glad they were discontinued only because it led me to an even better chip.
The Hawaiian Style chip is a great blend of BBQ and sweetness. These chips are thicker and much closer to a kettle style chip. They are a little greasy, but hey it is a potato chip after all. Continue reading “Trader Joe’s Hawaiian Style Hickory Barbeque Potato Chips”
